Assembled on site in just a few days utilizing pre-fabricated cross-laminated timber and faux finishing, this holiday home in Atlanta was designed by architect and visionary Jennifer Bonner of MALL Designs.
Located in America’s iconic Southern city, the project undertakes an old Southern tradition of faux-finishing, cladding the exterior and parts of the interior in opposition to expectations.
The tall profile features a multi-gabled roofline, with the rooms, catwalks, and double height spaces on the interior aligning to the ridges and valleys of the building above.
Produced by gluing together layers of lumber that alternate in direction, unexpected, asymmetrical profiles and forms emerge, with angled pitches taking form from a cluster of six gables.
Set over three floors, the ground floor houses the sleek, interrelated living/master bedroom, dining and kitchen spaces with a second story upper suite and lounge that sleeps two.
The exterior spaces include a large terrace integrated into the volume of the house and a deck extending to the back yard that connects the interior with the surrounding landscape.
The combination of real-and-faux divides the rooms while creating a natural palette and integrating the spaces with color, personality, and polish.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Wifi throughout, Samsung 55″ cable TV with LG soundbar, Netflix, Amazon Prime, kitchen and bath amenities, laundry facilities.
AROUND
Atlanta holds a special place within the heart of America. It’s the touchstone and heart of Southern culture, and the birthplace of the civil rights movement. Home to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, Dr. King’s legacy is embedded in the city’s historic Sweet Auburn district.
A patchwork of diverse social, historical and artistic culture, Atlanta is a vibrant, and creative city, pulsing with theatrical, musical and culinary delights.
Located in Inman Park just steps from the Beltline (the pedestrian and bike path that circles the city), the Old 4th Ward, and the Krog and Ponce City Street Markets, the house is within a short walk from some of the city’s best restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops, as well as the Sol LeWitt, “54 Columns” (1999) sculpture at the end of Sampson Street.
A densely forested city, the Beltline cuts a swath through the heart of the urban core, where the Dogwoods, Oaks, and Magnolias create the lush, atmospheric Southern charm.
