AROUND

The Dominican Republic boasts incredible cultural and natural diversity with some of the Carribean’s most pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and a rich history.

The island’s capital of Santo Domingo is ninety minutes drive and dates back to Columbus’ discovery of the island in the 16th century, with the UNESCO-listed Zona Colonial at its center, and its miles long Malecon along the shore. At the far eastern tip, Punta Cana is a favorite and is less than an hour from the villa, while the island’s interiors are mountainous and lush with the Caribbean’s largest mountain Pico Duarte at its center.

The hilltop village of Altos de Chavon, a surreal replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village, is just a few minutes drive from the villa. Designed by Dominican architect, Jose Antonio Caro, and Italian designer and cinematographer, Roberto Coppa, the meticulous recreation was handcrafted by  local artisans and serves as a cultural center for artists from all over the world. It’s atmospheric cobble stone streets, stone buildings and Grecian amphitheater are a hub of working studios in multiple mediums, with many shops and galleries where you can purchase their work.

Immediately offshore is the protected Isla Catalina  with beaches, coral reefs and the wrecked ship of pirate William Kidd.
