Comporta, says The Guardian newspaper, “is like Ibiza, but on a really good day.” The beach community is located one hour south of Lisbon but, unlike Ibiza, has been relatively untouched by tourism. It boasts white sandy beaches sandwiched between the Atlantic and dense forests – and perfect solitude.
This collection of beach houses is delightfully bohemian, but not at the expense of luxury. The property feels at once very modern and windswept old world, with its palette of cool blues and whites, polished cement, exposed wooden beams (not only on the ceilings but creating bold stripes on the walls), electic art, reclaimed wooden furniture and quirky found objects. We love the gorgeous blue Smeg fridge, and the cushion proclaiming ‘I know how to make you laugh’ really sets the tone.
One of the dominant themes of the property is relaxation. It has many spaces for unwinding, including a treehouse and a very large pool surrounded by grass and decking. The indoor living areas also merge into outdoor lounge spaces, creating a lovely indoor/outdoor feel.
The property sleeps up to twelve, and the unique configuration of rooms offers lots of possibilities – as well as the potential for privacy. The main house has two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. The kids’ house has two twin bedrooms, one bunk bedroom and a shared bathroom. The separate villa houses the master bedroom with its romantic four-poster bed and ensuite bathroom.

There are 12km of uniterrupted sandy beaches to the west, with a smattering of restaurants on stilts along the shore. The protected Sado Estuary (with dolphins) and the Arrabida Mountain Range National Park lie to the east and north.
