Surrounded by countryside and facing south with stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic, this holiday home in the Azores designed by Azorean architects Luis Almedia E. Sousa and Fernando Monterio is sited to take advantage of the commanding views in complete privacy.  

Designed in two separate sections and connected via a central canopy that serves to both separate and unite the home, its sublime placement and walls of glass joins the indoor and outdoor spaces in seamless connection.

The day part consists of a brightly illuminated living room and adjoining dining room, a large kitchen with a central island, and an outdoor patio nearby to enjoy dining alfresco or a glass of local wine at sunset.

The sleeping quarters consists of two double en suite bedrooms and a master suite with a dressing room. The studio/office can double as additional bedroom for two and features ocean views.

The teakwood terraces and expansive grassy lawns extend out to the pool that blends into the horizon.

AROUND

The largest of the Azores islands, Sao Miguel is known as the Green Island for it’s vast plains of fertile land and mountains. The most populous in the island chain, the largest city in the archipelago Ponta Delgada is less than ten minutes drive as are the closest beaches.

A growing cosmopolitan center, the ocean front city is both contemporary and historic with a mix of modern, 16th and turn of the century architecture and great dining and night life.

Scenic and diverse, the island features the mountainous peaks of Pico da Vara and Agua de Pau and several beautiful lakes including the Lagoa do Fogo and Sete Cidades. The true landmark of the island is The Furnas Valley, with it’s volcanic thermal baths and steam vents spouting from around a beautiful lagoon.

Several notable religious festivals are held on the island, where tourists flock every year especially the feast of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres on the fifth Sunday after Easter.

BEST TIME TO VISIT: Year around as the climate is very mild. From May to October temperatures are slightly higher with less chance of heavy rain.
