AROUND

This newly remodeled home is peaceful and quiet with spectacular views of the mountains, all while hidden in prestigious neighborhood. Almost always sunny (even when the coast is fogged in), there are great hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains are only a short walk away.

Owner Steve has some recommendations for enjoying Brentwood to its fullest: One is to bike The Strand, a 22-mile path that you can enter from five miles away from The Rock. It trails for almost the entire coastline of Los Angeles. Take a hike up Temescal Gateway Park for viewpoints of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina and downtown, and a variety of terrain and flora (bring your dog!). Another great hike with a 1,960-foot peak is the Westridge Trailhead – less than a mile from The Rock and teeming with history; in the ‘50s, San Vicente Mountain served as a mountaintop military installation to defend Los Angeles from soviet missile attacks.

Achieve your farm-to-table dreams at the Santa Monica or Brentwood Farmers’ Market, both held every week year-round and filled with organic feasts waiting to be discovered (according to Steve, the best day to go is on Wednesday along Arizona Avenue.)

If art speaks to you, or if you just want to immerse yourself in the Santa Monica Mountains inside a modern fortress with incredible gardens and views, there is the J. Paul Getty Museum. The collection includes pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculptures, decorative arts; and 19th- and 20th-century American and European photographs.

Anyone with children should consider a visit to the oceanfront Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier, an admission-free amusement park filled with twelve rides and tons of great eateries (only an eight-minute drive from The Rock.)

Finally, to feel like a true local, stroll the Brentwood Country Mart, a barn-themed retail village that is footsteps away from The Rock, featuring high-end retail, a beloved independent bookstore, and plenty of patio and dining space. Check out the pony rides on Sundays and al fresco summer movies, and organic ice cream at Sweet Rose Creamery has a devoted following for a reason.
