This vacation rental in New Zealand is a farmhouse compound with six bedrooms and three bathrooms total, sleeping up to 16 guests.
The ocean and mountain-facing common house was designed with friends, family or colleagues in mind. Comprising one large space surrounded by moveable glass walls, it also has a wraparound deck, with a huge, engaging kitchen, drop-down movie screen and inside-outside audio.
The “walls” act more like doors, folding back to sheltered decks, linking to bathrooms, laundry, six double bedrooms, and the grounds. The Common House can comfortably seat up to 70 people for dinner and dancing. Its facilities are chef friendly, with a stainless cooking and prep scullery and an open kitchen, with two ovens, two fridges and two dishwashers.
The kitchen is well-appointed with high-quality cookware and dishes. Self-catering is permitted, or the owners are happy to arrange a chef on your behalf (The farm offers a varied selection of lamb and beef from the property, which can be supplied at modest prices. Lansdowne wild pork and venison is almost always available). It is also strongly encouraged that you sample the Pacific bounty: fish, paua (abalone), mussels, kina (urchin roe) and koura – some of which is caught right in front of Lansdowne Farm.
Formerly the homestead’s lounge, the book-lined library is now a delightful, free-standing building that shares the main bathroom.
In The North and South Bunkhouse, two large rooms straddle and share a bathroom and an outdoor shower. Both rooms have wood-burning fireplaces, sweeping views and detached privacy. North has the only King bed.
The Cabanas are three compact, free-standing rooms, sharing the main bathroom. Each has an extendable awning over an outside deck overlooking native vegetation. They include running water and an ice chest, luggage storage and WiFi. Views out across Big Bush to the seaward Kaikoura mountain range.
