At Boutique Homes, we love adventure – and nothing says adventure like taking a boat out to your own private island. The view at this lovely property is of Lake Nicaragua and the Mombacho volcano, and the soundtrack is made up of birds and the breeze.
The little island sleeps six in three separate accommodations – and features a swimming pool, yoga platform, massage facilities, intimate bar, and restaurant. Furniture and accessories have been handcrafted by local artisans, and the property is staffed by locals, including the chef, who creates unique menus using the best locally-sourced ingredients, many of which come from the island’s gardens.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The property has a restaurant, bar, pool and yoga deck. It offers spa services. It is off-grid, with electricity provided by solar power, and uses renewable sources wherever possible.
AROUND
The island is just minutes away from the bustling, historic city of Granada, which was named by Hernández de Córdoba after the ancient Spanish city of Granada.
It is known for its colonial-era architecture, and bears a resemblance to Antigua in Guatemala. Like Antigua it sits in the shade of a volcano – in this case, Masaya, Mombacho and Ometepe Island. Unlike Antigua, however, it sits on a lake – Nicaragua.
Sites worth visiting are Parque Central and the private Mi Museo, with its collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. Activities include hiking, fishing, water sports, horseback riding, dining, shopping and exploration.
LOCATION
Granada, Nicaragua. Nearest airport: Augusto C. Sandino (Managua) International Airport (33km).
BEST TIME TO VISIT
November to April, though the rainy season is less touristy. The world-famous Granada Semana Santa takes place the week of Easter.
