This lush thirty acre peninsula on the western tip of the island of Baquia was discovered in 1964 by a couple on the move from urban life and became the canvas for a peaceful utopian community and all-natural wonderland built solely from the island elements. Purposely designed to be off grid, the idea started as an adventurous escape for the founders, with a single home painstakingly crafted under an enormous and dramatic rock arch formation known as Moonhole that eventually became the touchstone for an entire community. With a determined commitment and passion- and miraculously, no formal architectural training – the couple’s home and concept took shape over thirty years with the help of local carpenters and masons who used only rocks and native hardwood along with found items from the land and sea to craft each structure. The original residence now abandoned, still stands as a reminder and lasting legacy of an uncompromising vision and although uninhabited, can still be viewed from the sea.

One of seventeen structures, this completely restored treetop villa rests over two hundred feet above the shore along the rocky ridgeline with stunning views out to sea. Accessed via a winding stone pathway, it’s few minutes walk from the entrance of the compound and is one of the most remote. The main living area is built around a central column with a fully equipped solar powered kitchen and dining area that seats twelve with a throne at the head as well as a lounge and bar for entertaining. The interiors incorporate lots of natural elements like whalebone, shells and driftwood, which are softened by warm colorful textiles and subtle decorative flourishes.

There’s an en-suite master bedroom that overlooks a deep gorge with a separate anteroom and protected seating area that can be used as a child’s bed. The second en-suite bedroom is open on all sides and nestled into the trees overlooking the islands to the south with massive boulders that form a wall along the walkway to the lily pond while the third en-suite bedroom features a cavernous entrance and views overlooking St. Vincent in the distance.

The outdoor terrace and gardens have panoramic vantage points with cascading tropical vines and flowers, bougainvillea, palms and flame trees with winding stone paths perched above the shore.

The staff serves guests delicious, locally sourced food in the nearby gallery and the on site office continues to serve as the headquarters for the charity and trust designed to preserve the unique origins and intention of its founders while providing for the educational, medical and social needs of the community that helped build this one of a kind place.
