This luxury villa in Greece is located on a hillside overlooking the village of Achlades, in the north of Crete. Originally built in the 19th century, it has been given an extensive makeover, while preserving much of its traditional architecture.
The wall arches, wooden floors and ceilings are original, and materials like untreated stones, vintage tiles, cypress trunks and handmade bricks have been added to keep the feel of the Cretan countryside. The interior stonework is stunning, and extends into design elements. This – alongside the bursts of colorful textiles, blend of antique and modern furniture and uexpected mix of cool features like Smeg fridges and Grecian urns – really gives the house character.
The house is two-level, with an interesting configuration of rooms and amenities that make it perfect for two or three small families or a group of friends, sharing. It sleeps eight guests, and a further two in folding beds. The ground floor is an open-plan living room, with TV and Playstation, a full kitchen, a bedroom with two singles, and a bathroom. There is also a studio, with loft-type double bedroom, kitchenette, and en-suite bathroom. Up the stairs on the second level, there are two bedrooms (1 king, 2 singles), a shared kitchenette, and a shared bathroom.
The outside spaces are great too. On the ground floor, there’s a romantic courtyard with stone barbecue facilities and a shaded pergola. To the rear of the house, there’s a large, private pool, with an expansive lawn terrace, sun beds and umbrellas. Below the pool area, there’s also a playground with toys and soft sand that’s perfect for little kids.

The house has satellite smart HD TV, a Playstation 4, laptop and printer, hairdryer, first aid kit, washing machine, air conditioning and heating, iron and board, scale, and security alarms. The kitchen is equipped with fridge/freezer, espresso and filter coffee machine, microwave, stove, toaster, kettle, mixer, and dishwasher. Showers have really cool hydromassage columns. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, and beds have Coco Mat mattresses. Bathrobes, slippers and natural Korres bathroom amenities are provided.

The villa is located in the village of Achlades, and within easy reach of the seaside village of Panormo, with its two beaches which are ideal for kids (6km), and the fishing village of Bali, with four beaches as well as tavernas, bars and shops (8km). The house is 27km from the city of Rethymnon, known for its Renaissance-style Venetian architecture and the historic Monastery of Arkadi. It’s 60km from Heraklion, and 90km from Chania.
