Located in the charming market town of Kingsbridge in Devon, this vacation home rental in England is both old and new, combining atmospheric modern design with historic foundations. Originally a 19th century brewery, the shell of the building has been carefully restored and the interiors completely gutted and redesigned. The oldest building in a row of cottages, the house was neglected, unoccupied and in a state of disrepair for many years when a London based couple set about transforming it.
Accessed via a narrow passage from the street you enter through a courtyard with a glazed gable end that opens up, allowing it to become part of the main living space. The main floor features a state of the art kitchen and dining area that opens onto an enclosed courtyard with floor to ceiling windows that fold out. The original stone walls have been painstakingly restored and the roof, built from salvaged timber has been engineered without ties so that all of the space can be used.
On the mezzanine level overlooking the kitchen is a bright and airy open plan living space along with an additional room that can double as sleeping space or hang out space where you can relax and listen to an LP or two on the vintage record player. Connected via a narrow staircase is the voluminous en-suite master bedroom along with an additional double bedroom. Both are private and peaceful and like the rest of the house, feature an abundance of light and space, and meticulous attention to detail.
The kitchen courtyard is the ideal place for a sunny al fresco meal during the day and the entrance courtyard includes a firepit for cozy evenings.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Wifi throughout, Smart TV and Sonos sound system. Small parking space for one car which requires precision manuevering depending on the size of the car (best for smaller vehicles).
