Situated along the Arousa estuaries in northwestern Spain, this beautifully crafted award winning home has been extensively featured in international design and architectural media and cited as a leader in environmental and energy efficient design.
Conceived and designed by Spanish architect Inaki Leite, the home’s inspiration was derived from the natural coastal environment and incorporates the beautifully weathered bateas wood from the local mussel fishermen’s platforms along with the natural rock faces. The modern, intersecting structural forms have a Scandinavian inspired aesthetic and are clad in the raw, unfinished wood on the exteriors and halved to expose the smooth warm texture on the interiors.
The bright, open spaces are delineated in varying visual relationships and interconnecting living spaces that form striking architectural interaction throughout. The main floor features a large south facing glass wall with views of the sea and gardens with a fireplace and lounge area and state of the art oak paneled kitchen that serves as the focal point for entertaining and family gatherings. The exposed concrete and folded stainless steel staircase leads to the en-suite master bedroom with a private rooftop terrace and stunning sea views through retractable shutters and an additional terrace bedroom with separate bath. Another stairway leads to the main entrance and two ground floor bedrooms.
Along with the locally sourced materials, every element in the home was hand made by local craftsmen including the gorgeous bespoke furnishings and finishes. Carefully designed with respect for nature and environmental impact, the home received the highest energy efficient rating through a series of complex solar, insulation and ventilation systems and a purifying vertical moss garden installed with the help of a renowned Spanish botanical biologist. Just steps from the shore, this modern beach house is an inspired work of art.
