Designed by award winning Dow Jones Architects in London, this contemporary family home is the 2015 RIBA winner for “Best New Build 2015.”
Set within a private orchard and gardens and adjacent to protected woodland habitat, the house was commissioned by a writer and designer as a family retreat. Clad in black timber, the sharp modern lines and clean architectural forms were designed as a series of layered spaces that extend into and around the landscape creating generous living areas inside and out.
Surrounded with enormous picture windows and glazed walls that frame the landscape, the interiors are flooded with natural light. The ground floor features hand troweled concrete floors, Douglas fir accents and bespoke furnishings with a eclectic collection of decor and objet d’art. An attention to detail is evident throughout with a warm home away from home quality ideal for families.
The fully equipped kitchen and dining area is designed for entertaining with seating for up to fourteen. Three of the bedrooms are situated upstairs with a fourth bedroom downstairs, each with enormous picture windows and panoramic woodland views. Double doors open out to the wrap around veranda leading out to the expansive property with an al fresco dining area and multiple lounge areas and a BBQ fire pit. There are play areas for both kids and adults with an in-ground trampoline, badminton and pro-ball tennis all within a private garden oasis.
Available only in the summer months, this house is worth the wait.
