For those in search of a romantic getaway, to others looking for excitement and adventure, this villa for rent in Spain is ideally located in the heart of L’Empordanet, on the outskirts of the Gavarres National Park in Girona.

Immersed within a private countryside hamlet of one hundred acres, the property dates back to the 13th century with subsequent evidence of a 17th century noble family’s occupation and coat of arms still engraved on the portals.

Most recently renovated by a family of avid travelers, the extensive restorations took years to complete, preserving all of the authentic and classic features from the past, with cleverly integrated modern conveniences, creating a stylish mix of contemporary and historic Spanish style.

Large and welcoming, the home can accommodate up to twelve guests, with a spacious sitting room, formal dining room and professionally equipped kitchen on the ground floor with soaring ceilings and plenty of space. Three cavern-like spaces of vaulted stone have been transformed into additional living, dining and sleeping rooms on the ground floor with five double bedrooms and two sitting rooms on the upper floors.

Bright and airy, the interiors are enhanced by many original features, local brocante treasures, and hand crafted furnishings and antiques that complement the historic aspects of the property.

The expansive grounds wrap around the house with a mixture of lush gardens and terraces for alfresco dining with ample space for relaxation and play with a pool and lounge areas.

Combining simplicity and beauty, while highlighting the nature surrounding it, the villa is removed from the hustle and bustle of the beach party life, providing a peaceful and re-energizing oasis.

AROUND

A typical medieval village, Cruilles is among many charming towns along the Costa Brava that remain untouched by time, including nearby Perellada, Monells, Madremanya among many others. Ideally located near the area’s bustling beach scene, there are also many summer festivals to check out with their Gegants and popular dances  as well as the musical festivals of Perellada and Cap Roig, and the colorful fireworks in the town of La Bisbal.

The Costa Brava is bordered to the north by the the beautiful and protected Garrotxa region and to the south by the Gavarres national park, surrounded by some of Catalonia’s most breathtaking natural and coastal beauty. The many beaches in the area are just a twenty minute drive. Don’t miss El Canadell, a hidden gem of a beach in the picturesque fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell.

A small medieval city and university town with fabulous Catalonian restaurants, shops, bars and cafes, historic Girona sits along the River Onyar where the walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) features the ancient Roman rampart fragments of the Vella fortress woven through the tiny streets and alleyways.

The area is also home to the authentic and picturesque medieval towns of  Besalu, Figueres (home of surrealist painter Salvador Dali), Santa Pau, Castellfollit de la Roca, Olot and Alta, all in less than an hour’s drive.
