Cementina Tile

Villa Filottrano in Marche, Italy has been restored using traditional local and recycled materials with colorful and authentic Cementina tile work. Cementina is a glazed porcelain stoneware with a surface that recreates the aspect of hand-trowelled cement.

Massimiliano Bruni and his wife purchased the tiles in Colle Sannita in the province of Benevento, 80km from Naples, from a second-hand dealer. They reused the old tiles to create new combinations of ‘three-dimensional’ rugs, bathroom walls, beautiful tables in the living area and our favorite, this stunning kitchen island, an artwork on its own.

Massimiliano shares: “My wife had the idea of the kitchen island. She has Neapolitan origins and a great passion for cooking. On our weekends we love to discover vintage furniture stores or antique markets, and it was during one of these weekends that we ventured into a second-hand dealer that exhibited beautiful old tiles! Since that time we have not stopped imagining them in our kitchen in the Marche.”

The ancient tiles have become a central theme of the restoration, having been used in so many ways. We love the colorful tile and the unique mix of old and new materials that lend it a calm sense of modern style.
