Set along Buffels River with the sparkling Atlantic in the foreground, this holiday home in South Africa is a sophisticated and elegant house that inhabits the wild cape landscape in symbiotic harmony.
Designed by Cape Town based architect SAOTA, the house faces north with floor to ceiling glazing that floods the interiors with natural light with the westerly facades facing towards Cape Point and gorgeous sunsets. In summer, the house opens up to the cooling breezes from the Atlantic.
The open-plan rooms flow seamlessly, creating a central living zone with the kitchen and lounge area at its center.
The character and interior architecture of the home demonstrate a stylish modern approach to living with a cool neutral palette and custom made pieces from ARRCC Interiors accented with original Moroccan Berber rugs and colourful kilims, soft leathers, white linens and rich textures creating a sense of calmness.
One of two fireplaces features unique punched brass cladding.
The dining room features a custom table by James Mudge accentuated by the Lindsey Adelman pendant light with a graphic lighting installation from Flos.
Artwork was carefully curated and paired with the decor, with pieces from artists such as Deborah Poynton and Albert Coertse and is limited to key areas of the home for maximum impact. The neutral colour palette and modest furnishings allow the stunning natural views to be the focus.
There are four en suite bedrooms and a separate twin room with space for up to ten guests.
The landscaping incorporates as much indigenous and native plants as possible – surrounding the house and in the internal courtyard with the addition of iconic South African trees – Milkwood, Coral trees and Waterberry’s – making this a true-to-style South African family holiday home.
