This Sicilian apartment is located in the center of Syracuse, with great views and a lovely breezy feel. Built in the 1950s, it has been renovated with a contemporary, retro style, mixing vintage pieces and an interesting collection of original work from illustrators, local ceramicists and designers.
Notable features include the polished terrazzo floors, the large windows leading to a balcony within a typical Italian courtyard, and the bold tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, which were handcrafted in the Sicilian town of Cartagiorone. The furniture includes pieces by Enzo Mari, Friso Kramer and Eames, and art includes cool 20th-century prints like the imposing gorilla over one of the beds.
The apartment has two bedrooms and can sleep up to six guests as there is an additional sofabed in the living room.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The kitchen has a refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher, heating system, tablecloth and dishes. The bathroom has a bathtub and hairdryer. There is an iPod audio system.
AROUND
The apartment is located in the center of Syracuse, five minutes walk from the bus and train stations, the Piazza Duomo and the Marina, and ten minutes from the Archeological Park and Archeological Museum.
The owners can recommend a variety of local restaurants. For the classic Italian aperitivo (before the meal), San Rocco, Terraces in Piazza San Rocco, and Tinkite, in Via della Giudecca 61-63 are their favorites. For Sicilian breakfast, they recommend granita di mandorla and brioche at Piazza Duomo’s Terraces.
They also recommend a number of city beaches. Most notable is Ru Frati with its pista ciclabile – or biking path – a former rail track recently transformed into a park along the sea. It is also an open air sculpture museum park, and is a great destination in early morning or just before sunset. There are large number of additional beaches within 15-45 mintues by car.
