This cool hideout is that rare experience that takes you off the beaten path and makes you giddy with a heightened sense of adventure.
Tucked away within a verdant forest with a stream and waterfall tumbling at its base, this cabin rental in Cornwall is part of a unique glamping compound overlooking the sea and the windswept grasslands of the north.
The vast, forty five acre property is also home to a beautifully dormant 19th century Engine House that once served the quarry, transformed now into a fab swimming lake. Dominating its spot on the horizon, it’s the last of its kind in North Cornwall, and although abandoned, is a wistful reminder of a bygone era.
Constructed like a shotgun shack, of wood and corrugated metal, the two-story cabin is part pub, part open air lounge and roadhouse, with a communal sleeping area of bunks and pull-out beds for up to six guests.
There’s a deck with a firepit and another floating deck on the water for chilling with a pint together in the wild. The cabin is designed as a bespoke project to enhance its natural setting and is one of the first fully off-grid and carbon neutral bars powered by hydro and solar sources.
The property was also designed as a collaborative and creative space, with an array of pop-up workshops and lectures, music and foodie events and summer workshops for up and coming architects, designers and students, to encourage experimentation while prompting you to think expansively and creatively from this sublime location.
