Facing sweeping views of Loch Pooltiele, the Outer Hebrides and the surrounding hills, this holiday letting in the UK takes the drama of the landscape and amplifies it through simple but distinctive design.

A strikingly modern residence modeled on traditional Scottish longhouses of the region, Glasgow based architects Dualchas have captured the cinematic quality of the landscape through a simplicity of gesture, spearheading a bit of a renaissance in architecture in the Highlands region.

Basing the design on a deep understanding of the cultural context, Dualchas also embrace sustainability with the use of energy harnessing technology, and materials and with the northern climate in mind.

Clad in timber with strategically placed floor-to-ceiling glass that opens out to the views, the home’s position and response to the site was carefully considered.

The interiors feature generous double-height, open-plan living spaces, crisp, clean whites and pale oak wood floors and a wood burning stove that keeps things warm and welcoming even on the coldest of nights. There’s a chefs kitchen and dining area with four bedrooms that can accommodate up to six adults and two children. All of the bedrooms have dreamy sea views.

Decor is kept to a minimum, with a mix of vintage and modern furnishings  that keeps it simple but stylishly in tune with the architecture.

From here, time slows to allow you the chance to settle in and watch the dramatic, ever-changing scenery.

AROUND

The northernmost island of the Inner Hebrides – the Isle of Skye is a remote and dramatically beautiful setting.

Situated along the island’s spectacular north west coast, the house overlooks Loch Pooltiel with sea views to the Outer Hebrides. The Milovaig area in the Glendale region is just a few miles from Dunvegan Castle (believed to be the oldest inhabited castle in Britain) and its charming village, and under an hour from the island’s capital of Portree. The peninsula includes several townships  and an abundance of sleepy country roads and moors where the sheep and cattle wander freely. An expansive and protected wildlife habitat, the area is home to an incredible diversity of land and sea birds and marine life and dazzling displays of wildflowers in the Spring. The nearby Coral Beaches and Neist Point shoreline feature spectacular white sand beaches and spectacular rock formations which visitors can explore
