Embedded in the coastal dunes with unobstructed views facing the waterways, this holiday home in the Netherlands was created as not only a vacation home, but a wellness retreat immersed in nature.

Designed by Netherlands-based Bedaux de Brouwer Architects, it’s one of several in a development that is being delivered in phases at the site but retains its own privacy and independence.

Composed of gray brick, steel, and glass, the strikingly modern silhouette stands out within the simple, windswept beauty of the landscape.

The interiors are awash in natural light from the floor to ceiling windows that run the full length of the living areas with panoramic views over the wide polder landscape.

Spacious and sleek, the rooms are a mix of crisp white and soft neutrals that mix natural elements and decor from the land with contemporary minimalism.

The fireside sitting room adjoins the dining room with seating for eight and the fully equipped open kitchen. With four spacious bedrooms and two luxurious bathrooms, the house is the ideal retreat for family or groups to share.

The main living areas open out to the gardens and a spacious and sunny south-facing terrace with a dining area and large sunbeds for catching some rays.

After a long day exploring the beaches, you can warm up in the luxurious Finnish sauna with room for four.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Wifi throughout, cable TV, kitchen and bath amenities, laundry facilities, private parking for two cars.

SLOPES OF MANY ACCLAIMS AND OLD GROWTH FORESTS

Long known for its pristine powder and legendary resorts on both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, this Canadian mountain town and its renowned landscapes are straight out of a Slim Aarons photo. And with 8,000 acres of skiable land (the largest on the continent), it’s no wonder Whistler Blackcomb was chosen as the home of the 2010 Olympic Games.

Walkable, charming and friendly, the village of Whistler (located at the base of the two mountains) is chalet-style and is lined with restaurants, bars and shops. There is a great “Made in Whistler” scene, with items like hand-glazed pottery and wooden art pieces.

The area is increasingly growing its arts and culture scene, and Audain Art Museum is one recent development. Modern and striking, the 56,000 square foot museum is home to a private collection of old First Nation masks, works of post-war Canadian artists and internationally-recognized contemporary artists.

Whistler’s lower elevations showcase a coastal climate. There are spectacular glacier-fed lakes and old-growth rainforests where you can hike among giants on the endless mossy carpet.

Vancouver lies two hours to the south.

Composed of bold proportions that still manage to be warm and inviting, the interiors are most certainly luxurious but tempered with sober lines and vast expanses of glass that refer back to the natural beauty that surrounds it.

The entry hall opens into the main living spaces, a soaring pavilion outlined in banks of windows, eliminating the barriers with the scenery. Using a fusion of steel, textured concrete, and wood, the effect is sleek and quietly modern.

The open configuration features well-defined living spaces with comfy sitting areas to sink into around the fireplace in the great room, and a separate media lounge and sitting room off to the side.

There’s a professional-grade eat-in kitchen and separate dining space with the option of a private chef if you choose.

There is one double en suite bedroom and a separate office on the ground floor and three additional en suite bedrooms including the master with a private balcony complete with ocean views on the upper mezzanine level.

While the house itself is visually striking, the grounds are a huge part of its appeal, with a private oasis of tropical and native gardens that include an architecturally-designed pond, a fire pit, and a tennis court.

Tucked away in a quiet spot near the tennis court is a vintage Airstream trailer that can accommodate two additional guests.

Dotted with magnificent homes, and state beaches and parks, it’s a short drive south into the exclusive Malibu colony, and further to Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and beyond for some of the finest restaurants, shopping, and city life.
