Set within the ancient and rugged lava flows on the southern most regions of the Big Island, this holiday home for rent in Hawaii is a modernist tour-de-force.

Originally designed by Robert Trickey, who launched the career of AIA award-winning architect Craig Steely the home is surrounded by jagged lava formations interspersed within the jungle.

Constructed with more than eighty percent of the materials sourced locally, the house frames ocean views from oversized rooms, soaring ceilings and walls of glass.

Entering from a bridge that covers the pool onto a large lanai, the glass enclosed living room sits on the south of the lanai with uninterrupted views over the lava fields.

Directly off of the lanai are the sitting room, the kitchen, the dining room and a guest room. A cantilevered floating stairway of mango wood leads to the upstairs master bedroom, bath, and study. With three additional double bedrooms, the house can accommodate up to eleven guests.

The pool wraps around the house providing reflection of both the architecture and the environment, with relaxing and inspiring spots settled within it’s ancient and ever-evolving landscape.
