This lush forty acre peninsula on the western tip of the island of Baquia was discovered in 1964 by a couple on the move from urban life and became the canvas for a peaceful utopian community and an all-natural wonderland built solely from the island elements. Purposely designed to be off grid, the idea started as an adventurous escape for the founders, with a single home painstakingly crafted under an enormous and dramatic rock arch formation known as Moonhole that eventually became the touchstone for an entire community. With a determined and passionate commitment- and miraculously, no formal architectural training – the couple’s home and concept took shape over thirty years with the help of local carpenters and masons who used only rocks and native hardwood along with found items from the land and sea to craft each structure. The original residence now abandoned, still stands as a reminder and lasting legacy of an uncompromising vision and although uninhabited, can still be viewed from the sea.

One of seventeen structures, this large, completely restored beachfront villa reaches from the shoreline to the treetops and is centered around a lush tropical garden facing the sea. The massive multi-level home houses an open plan living area with arched windows that frame the panoramic views of Petit Nevis, Isle á Quatre, and the southern Grenadines. The interiors include a fully equipped solar powered kitchen and dining area that seats twelve as well as a lounge and bar for entertaining. Incorporating natural elements like whalebone and driftwood, the earthbound features are softened by warm colorful textiles and subtle decorative flourishes.

There’s an en-suite treetop bedroom that overlooks the sea with a giant gum tree growing through the middle, and a large en suite bedroom above as well as a seaside bedroom awash in the sounds of the waves. A curved outdoor seating area overlooks the central garden with cascading tropical vines, bougainvillea, palm and fruit trees nestled next to the sun deck perched above the shore.

The commissary serves guests delicious, locally sourced food in the nearby gallery and the on site office continues to serve as the headquarters for the charity and trust designed to preserve the unique origins and intention of its founders while providing for the educational, medical and social needs of the community that helped build this one of a kind place.
