This beach house rental on Fire Island is just steps from both the Atlantic and Davis Park Bay on either side. Designed and built by a couple and a friend whose idea was to create an archetype of The Beach House together, its modern silhouette is in striking harmony with the woodlands and shoreline. Built like a ship, both the footprint and character are modest in style.
Nestled among the trees, it’s raised slightly above ground with silvery bleached clapboard exteriors and floor to ceiling windows and skylights that flood the interiors with natural light.
The main living area is the heart of the house with vaulted wood ceilings and an open industrial style floor plan that’s spacious and welcoming and includes the well equipped kitchen and dining area that seats six as well as a breakfast bar.
Minimalist and simply furnished, the house is tastefully appointed with mid century modern furnishings and second hand or salvaged pieces including a Wegner daybed, a set of Aalto stools, several sets of Russel Wright dishes, and the Victorian mahogany dining table surrounded by mismatched Eames chairs.
There are two large bedrooms with queen beds and two small bedrooms, one with a twin bed and one with a bunk bed perfect for the kids with room for a total of seven guests.
Outside there is a large deck with Reitveld chairs, a BBQ for summer dining and an outdoor rain shower for cooling off after a day at the beach.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES

AROUND
Davis Park/Ocean Ridge is a small and very quiet community at the easternmost section of Fire Island. Surrounded on both sides by Fire Island National Seashore between the Great South Bay off of mainland Long Island and the Atlantic Ocean, this spit of land is free of cars along the unpaved Burma Road. A tiny hamlet that only slightly swells with tourists in Summer compared to other parts of the island, there is one store, one bar/restaurant, and one snack shack. It lies fourteen mile from Moriches Inlet at the eastern end of the island and sixteen miles from Democrat Point at the western end (in Robert Moses State Park). The nearby Watch Hill facility of the National Park Service is a half mile east and has a small marina, restaurant, campground, nature trails and seasonal tours and activities while Water Island (a community, not a separate island) is approximately a mile west. You can also walk or take a water taxi to the Pines for more civilization. Manhattan is a two hour drive.
