Rose House, Senhals, Germany

This charming cottage is located in a spacious park by the Moselle River, in the sleepy, historic town of Senhals. It’s part of a collection of neighboring homes owned by a couple who were inspired to breathe new life into the run-down buildings, using ideas garnered in their world travels.

The theme of this cottage is red roses, which are the first thing you see on approaching it. The theme is continued inside the house, with an almost Alice in Wonderland vibe in the hallway, which has black-and-white checkerboard floors and a bold splash of red roses across the wall.

Although the house has an overall contemporary country feel (with original beams and stone walls retained), there are also bursts of lime green, pink, fuschia and scarlet, which give the interiors a great, playful energy.

The property extends over three floors, with one bedroom (two single beds) on the ground floor, a kitchen and living area on the middle floor, and a master bedroom in the attic. The large balcony terrace offers lovely views of the river and mountains – perfect for al fresco dining or sampling local wines under the moonlight.

This vacation home rental in Germany is perfect for a family or small group of friends.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. There is a TV, radio, CD-player, WLAN and safe. There is a Jacuzzi in a separate building which can be booked.

The surrounding park has two lawns, a barbecue area, orange trees, an olive grove, a vineyard, a little fountain and sand area, as well as lounge chairs, and direct access to the waterfront via a private bathing jetty. There are also facilities for meetings, family celebrations, and other events within the grounds.

AROUND

The municipality of Senheim lies on both banks of the river Moselle. The bigger of the two sides, also called Senheim, lies on the right bank, while the smaller Senhals lies on the left bank. They are linked by bridge. As far back as the Middle Ages, the locals made their living from agriculutre, predominantly by growing wine.

Sights to see in Senhals include St Mary Magdalene’s Catholic Church (thought to date back to the 13th century) and some beautiful old timber-frame buildings. The larger Senheim boasts the impressive St Remigius’s Catholic Church and number of historical buildings.

There are numerous great hiking trails, and a boat trip on the Moselle is recommended. Don’t forget to visit at least one castle – as there are many (Burgen, Burg Eltz, Beilstein, Cochem, Thurant). And the region hosts several great wine festivals.
