We are all about properties that have history and a great sense of style. These studio lofts in the Tuscan city of Florence have both. The property was a small factory in 1880 and then became artisans’ workshops. In 1999, it was taken over by architect Claudio Nardi, who turned it into his design studio. A few years later, he transformed it again – into what he called “a home for guests”.
We love that idea – and a couple of other ways the owners describe it. The cluster of lofts is “rather like a small country hamlet” and “halfway between being at home and away”. Which is exactly what vacation rentals should be. A mix of the familiar and the new, and a blend of community with privacy. They bring together the elegance of a metropolitan lifestyle with the cosiness of restored historical features, such as stone walls, cross vaults and fireplaces.
The entire property has ten loft spaces, and there are three Deluxe Studios. Up to 40sqm in size, they were created with a light color palette, vintage furniture and other glamorous details, such as a large antique mirror or stone artisinal drainer. They each have their own kitchenette and parlor.
The lofts all share a private garden with a striking white sandstone pool, hammocks and sun beds. There is a 24-hour living room with honesty bar, TV, CD/DVD player, wifi, library and fireplace.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Each studio has a telephone (with free national calls), TV, kitchenette or kettle and facilities for tea/coffee and snacks, heating/air conditioning, hairdryer, minibar (with free soft drinks), safety box, courtesy kit, and gym items. Free vintage bicycles are available for guests.
AROUND
The lofts are situated along the Arno, just opposite the historic Parco delle Cascine, which is within easy walking distance via a public garden along the banks of the river. It’s a great place for running, walking or horse riding. The property is 2.5km from the center of Florence, which can be reached within 10 minutes by taxi or in 30 minutes by foot. The owners also offer free bicycles, which will get you there in 10 minutes. The new tramway (stop Paolo Uccello or Sansovino) is just 200m from the property. There are tennis and golf clubs close by, as well as many good restaurants.
