At BoutiqueHomes, we have a thing for properties with a combination of history and style, and we love these lofts in Florence. Start with their great location, just minutes from the center of the city, then add beautiful design and attention to detail. These factors in themselves would be enough for most travelers.
However, their story adds even more appeal. The property in which they are found used to be a small factory until it was taken over and turned into artisans’ workshops. In 1999, architect Claudio Nardi decided to make the buildings a home for his design studio. A few years later, he transformed it into what he called “a home for guests”. In other words, a small collection of modern lofts, which the owners describe as almost a “small country hamlet”, built around a lovely garden with a sandstone pool.
The hamlet offers a blend of social and private with its communal spaces and ten separate apartments. Contemporary design sits comfortably with traditional stone walls, cross vaults and fireplaces.
There are two Loft Studios. Each is generously sized (up to 100sqm), with high ceilings and tall, arched windows, offering great views over the riverbanks, nearby park and city center. Details are a blend of antique and contemporary. One loft has a striking four-poster bed on one side of the studio space, as well as a pretty outdoor terrace. The other has a staircase leading to a cosy bedroom nook and bathroom – both of which have beautiful half-archway windows close to the floor.
The lofts all share a private garden with a striking white pool, hammocks and sun beds. There is a 24-hour living room with honesty bar, TV, CD/DVD player, wifi, library and fireplace.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Each studio has a telephone (with free national calls), TV, kitchenette or kettle and facilities for tea/coffee and snacks, heating/air conditioning, hairdryer, minibar (with free soft drinks), safety box, courtesy kit, and gym items. Free vintage bicycles are available for guests.
AROUND
The lofts are situated along the Arno, just opposite the historic Parco delle Cascine, which is within easy walking distance via a public garden along the banks of the river. It’s a great place for running, walking or horse riding.
The property is 2.5km from the center of Florence, which can be reached within 10 minutes by taxi or in 30 minutes by foot. The owners also offer free bicycles, which will get you there in 10 minutes. The new tramway (stop Paolo Uccello or Sansovino) is just 200m from the property. There are tennis and golf clubs close by, as well as many good restaurants.
