If you know London, you’ll know that tucked behind large 17th- or 18th-century houses, you’ll occasionally find little cobbled alleys that used to house stables or carriage houses. Today, most of them have been converted into homes – a far cry from their original use. This double-fronted mews house was recently converted and has a great location – in Notting Hill, a part of central London known for its markets, its annual Carnival, and the 1999 romantic comedy of the same name.

The traditional exterior has been given a contemporary makeover in brick and glass, and interiors are bright and sleek. A simple color palette of white walls and wood floors is brought to life with bold shapes and bursts of color, including the blood-red leather sofas, the pony-hide chaise, a striking suspended metal staircase that runs through the living room, and a hanging wood-burning stove.

The space is deceptively large with an open-plan kitchen, large lounge, four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a roof terrace, which overlooks the rooftops of the neighborhood, across Portobello Road. This is a great vacation home rental in London for up to eight guests.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

There is a shower, a bath, and three WCs. The road is private and located behind security gates. The house has wifi, a dishwasher, Nespresso machine, and an air-conditioning unit for the top floor master bedroom.

AROUND

The house is only a few feet away from the famous blue door that starred in the film Notting Hill. For those more interested in vintage London, it’s close to Portobello Road – reputedly the world’s largest antiques market, with over 1,000 dealers peddling their wares. There are also food stalls and more modern offerings – making this a great destination for bargain hunters.

The neighborhood has lots of great bars and restaurants too, and the rest of central London is within easy reach by public transport. If you want to explore the sights, Hyde Park and Kensington Palace (the former home of Princess Diana) are both nearby.

LOCATION

Notting Hill, London, UK. Nearest airports (by public transport): Heathrow (30 mins), Gatwick (1 hour), Stansted (1 hour 10 mins), Luton (1 hour 20 mins).

BEST TIME TO VISIT: London is a great destination year round, but the weather is best from spring to autumn.
