Located in Saint-Rémy overlooking the Alpilles range, this luxury villa for rent in Provence celebrates the art of ‘positive luxury’ and hospitality. Set in lush gated gardens, the 18th century farmhouse or ‘mas’, is a majestic structure built on several levels bordering the Voie Aurélia, the old Roman road along the north side of the Alpilles range.

The former home of surrealist artist Roger Bezombes in the 1950s, the entire property takes you on a trip through the history of art from the 1950s to today in an exuberant journey of colour and design.

Entering through the ground floor lounge is the heart of the house, where you’ll notice the artist’s magnificent mosaics below an imposing fireplace whose chimney breast came from the old pope’s palace in Avignon. A warm and inviting space where you can enjoy the discreet cigar and champagne cabinet surrounded by an exuberance of color. Up a few steps, in the center of the house is a stone dining table adjacent to the professionally equipped kitchen and a second media, gaming and bar lounge with a large picture window that opens onto a terrace overlooking the garden and the Alpilles hills. The larger dining room and wine cellar are carved into the original rock walls.

Each of the six color themed bedroom suites are large, light, and invitingly dreamy, with big beds, silky bed linen and bathrooms steeped in the emblematic scent of Hermès Eau d’Orange Verte. The ground floor orange suite is a spacious south-facing suite bathed in sunlight and the yellow room has it’s own terrace overlooking the garden and pool.

The peaceful purple room features outstanding view of the Alpilles, framed by the century-old wisteria and the red room features views over a landscape of garrigue scrubland illuminating it in red hues in the afternoon. The black room is dramatic and colorful in the Christian Lacroix spirit, with a  small terrace leading directly to the garden. The blue room is on its own on the top floor with a sloping attic ceiling and lounge corner ideal for kids.

There’s an office on the first floor and across the garden is the wellness and spa area fashioned form the former dovecoat offering an array of beauty and spa treatments.

The former sheep barn is now a charming accommodation for accompanying staff or an independent space for teens with a comfortable lounge, an open kitchen and two adjoining bedrooms that can accommodate four people.

The old growth gardens are lush and fragrant with shaded terraced areas, a lily pond and lounge areas to enjoy the pool where you’ll spy several of Bezombes whimsical sculptures dotting the grounds. There’s also a unique 1970s oval bar and a summer kitchen and BBQ for outdoor dining and playing.

A refined, creative refuge, this property offers a unique and magical private getaway in the heart of Provence and a charming venue to host family gatherings, reunions, intimate celebrations, weddings and wellness retreats.
