Centrally located in the artsy Bywater neighborhood, this luxury villa in New Orleans is a stately reminder of the wealthy plantation culture of the Antebellum south.

Built in the 1850s, the home’s architecture is typical of the 19th century region below the Mason Dixon line, when grand neoclassical and Palladian design was popular. With its soaring facade and portico with imposing pillars, the home makes an immediate impact. Restored to preserve the historic details, the interiors feature thirteen foot ceilings with decorative plaster, double height windows, heart pine wood floors, original fireplaces in many rooms, and hand carved cypress doors and trim.  At the same time, the layout has been skillfully updated to more comfortably accommodate large groups, with bright open spaces and muted colors that create a balance of past and present.

Downstairs the living room and dining area share the front of the house with a large fully equipped modern kitchen and breakfast area with a den towards the back. Two of the eight bedrooms are here and share a full bath. Upstairs there are six additional bedrooms, a large media room and a traditional porch that runs the length of the house for lounging on lazy afternoons.

Decorated to enhance it’s historic beauty, there are elegant period furnishings and fixtures and decor mixed with subdued vintage modern pieces that tie it all together.

The gardens include dining and lounge areas around a fire pit with a 125-year old oak tree for shade.

Just steps away from the vibrant street life and pulse of the city, this is an authentic way to experience a bygone era of the great city of New Orleans.
