Built during the 1930s as a simple fisherman’s shack, this beach house rental in Bodega Bay was a soggy wreck that had seen better days when architect Olle Lundberg recognized its potential and its heart.
Tucked into a quiet corner in a protected cove that looks out over the bay and its expansive wetlands and park land, this stunning top-to-bottom conversion recalls the charm and simplicity of coastal life. Preserving a laid back attitude and a sensitivity to the landscape, Lundberg recreated the look and feel of the modest seaside homes of the past, but with the elegance and craftsmanship of modern life.
Constructed of earthy materials like Ipe wood, multi-colored Brazilian slate, glass and steel, the house is well adapted to its environment and sticks to a chic and basic palette.
The spacious living room encourages communal interaction, with double height ceilings and knock out bay views. The sleek, professional grade kitchen and dining area are perfect for entertaining and can accommodate up to eight while the two cozy bedrooms sleep four.
Furnishings are vintage Danish and custom made by local craftsmen, with additional items by LD, fixtures by SkLo, molten glass fixtures from Czechoslovakia, and outdoor furnishings by Richard Schultz.
The wraparound deck juts out over the water with a picture perfect, sunset-facing dining table that is cut from a 100 year old redwood, and a heated concrete bench, where you can settle in for spell on the shore.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Wifi throughout, cable TV, laundry facilities, Viking gas BBQ, on site parking for two vehicles and electric charging station.
