Set at the foot of the Caha Mountains deep in the Sheen Valley, this vacation  home rental in Ireland’s County Kerry is surrounded by four acres of lush gardens and woodlands in one of the most scenic coastal areas in the south west. 

The late 19th century home was once a priest’s quarters for the adjacent church and has been meticulously renovated and redesigned by its current owners, creating a home that is both sophisticated and welcoming. Restored by an English family who relocated from London, the house was created with family and group holidays in mind. 

The ground floor living room comes complete with a cozy wood burning stove  – and an adjacent family and media with stacks of toys and games for the little ones.

The chic country kitchen with wood burning stove and dining area is perfect for family style gatherings. Stylish but welcoming and cozy, the home’s period features and bucolic charm are complimented by sophisticated furnishings and decor and vintage pieces. 

The two-wing layout provides enough room for extended families or a group of couples to share with ample private space. One wing contains a spacious double bedroom, a full bath and a large twin bedroom for the kids. 

The other includes an elegantly furnished en-suite double bedroom and an en-suite double bunkroom.

The grounds are lush and wooded with enchanting views of the mountains and valleys and the iconic Emerald Isle scenery.

AROUND

County Kerry in south west Ireland is home to rugged green countryside and mountains and a wild, majestic coastline. Situated on the scenic Ring of Beara peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean, the ring starts in the vibrant heritage town of Kenmare, and crosses through Healy Pass with several historic and colorful villages along the way including and Ahihies, Adrigole and Castletownbeare. Just ten minute’s drive from the house, Kenmare boasts an award-winning culinary scene with lively cafes, restaurants and pubs and a weekly artisan food market as well as unique shops and galleries.  

To the north you’ll find Killarney National Park and lakes, The Gap of Dunloe, Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring and the Dingle Peninsula with its blue flag beaches.

To the South Glengarriff and Garnish Island, Bantry Bay, Sheep’s Head, Mizen Head and the stunning West Cork coastline and beaches.

Gougane Barra forest park, Cork City with its English Market and the popular harbor town of Kinsale are to the east and to the west are the cliffs, coves and beaches of the Beara peninsula and the Wild Atlantic Way. The local ferries, P&O and Stena have daily sailings to Rosslare and Dublin from Pembroke, Holyhead and Liverpool.

BEST TIME TO VISIT: Tourist season kicks off in April and by May it’s in full swing running through to mid-November. From mid-November to Christmas things quiet down and some businesses in more remote locations might close. Christmas and New Year are busy followed with a quiet period through Easter. The most popular months are May – September and in Summer there is a real buzz around, especially in Kenmare.
