Located in the historic heart of the city at the intersection of the Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht canals in Amstelveldje, this vacation home rental in Amsterdam is set in one of the most idyllic stretches of the city’s  canals.

The first in a series of “suites” planned by a husband and wife design duo, the penthouse apartment is modest in size but long on style and reflects not only favorite places and spaces, but individual personality.

Met by a tall staircase, the space invites you up to explore what’s on the other end. The apartment may have the façade and bones of a 17th century canal house, but it’s been infused with bold, playful style. The all-in-one living and dining area features floors lacquered in sharp, shiny ebony contrasted with rich, emerald-colored walls.

There’s a lush, Baroque modernism at work here with furnishings in fuschia velvet fabrics and leopard-prints, and green shag carpets posing opposite one another. Playful touches include pop art pieces such as the neon “Wham!” sign, original  Danish and Guillaume Corneille prints, and an homage to Prince in the compact kitchen with dining bar.

Upstairs the sloping loft bedroom is perched in the eaves with a canopy bed for two in dreamy whites and creams. The little roof terrace is the spot to to watch the parade of boats on the canals and Prinsengracht stretching out below.
