Located in the peaceful countryside of Chiaramonte Gulfi, this vacation home for rent in Sicily is nestled into a quiet and remote corner north of Ragusa surrounded by abundant farmland and nature reserves.
A traditional Sicilian farmhouse, it was discovered and restored by an English antiques dealer following years of travel and collecting.
Well preserved with all of its original features intact including original terrazzo flooring, the one story house is spacious, but cozy with a bright breezy appeal.
The living room leads out onto the covered terrace overlooking a refreshing plunge pool and a shady al fresco dining area. The fully equipped kitchen was designed by a friend of the owner from London and modernized with a light touch.
There are two double bedrooms placed at the back side of the house (one en suite) and additional bath with room for four guests.
Beautifully decorated and curated with an eclectic collection of furniture and paintings from all over the world, you’ll spy a handcrafted Art Deco cocktail cabinet sourced from a cruise liner, a 1950’s portrait of Prince Kalamaka, handcrafted colonial ceiling lights discovered in Bombay, a library to peruse, and a delightful mix of sublimely combined vintage art and decor.
Head up to the rooftop terrace for stunning views of Chiaramonte Gulfi and the forests beyond.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Wifi throughout, kitchen and bath essentials, children’s high chair and crib available. Beach essentials including beach towels, umbrella, beach blanket, snorkeling gear provided.
AROUND
Surrounded by lush farmland, nature reserves and forests, the quiet town of Chiaramonte Gulfi sits along the “balcony” of Sicily with beautiful panoramic views over Ragusa province. The town is ideal for leisurely strolls through the old center, with its cafes, shops, bakeries and open square along its ancient cobbled streets. There are several museums and churches of artistic and historical interest as well.
The province’s historic heart, the UNESCO designated city of Ragusa is a Baroque gem perched against the rocky peaks. Divided into both the new and old centers, the historic jumble of alleyways and squares overlook the via Cap Bocchieri and opposite to the La Rocca Palace.
It’s less than an hour’s drive to Marina di Modica, Marina di Ragusa and the Andrea Doria promenade, and some of the best beaches on the island including Sampieri and Donnalucata as well as the beautiful Vendicari Nature Reserve. The nearby UNESCO “sister” cities of Scicli, Modica and Noto are stunning examples of the greater Val di Noto Baroque settlements. Syracuse and Catania are just up the coast along with the famous Mt. Etna.
