Placed along a babbling river bank in the heart of Burgundy’s “Côte-d’Or,” this cabin rental in France is a chic and surprising version of the rustic idyll.
Designed by France based Ar-Tek Architects, its straightforward silhouette is in striking harmony with nature. Sharing the vast estate with an early 19th century mill (Moulin de la Roche) and a companion cabin, the property has been granted four stars by Côte d’Or Tourism and was developed by the owner to celebrate and share the landscape.
After a life full of travel and with extensive experience in tourism, he returned to settle on the land of his childhood, and with the help of architect Richard Cretin, envisioned and designed an upscale, ultra-contemporary holiday home.
Composed of timber cladding with large bay windows that capture the views, the interiors are spare and light with all-in-one living, dining and kitchen area that is spacious but intimate. There is one double bedroom and one bathroom with room for two.
Outside, you can relax on the deck overlooking the river and in the loungers scattered among the trees, or sink into the Dutch hot tub with Spring water heated by a wood burning fire.
An exceptional spectacle anytime of the day, you’ll be visited by the Gallinules, ducks, herons, storks, deer, foxes, and come nightfall, marvel at a sky full of stars.
The companion cabin (click here for rental information) and the mill are situated a good distance apart to preserve privacy.

AROUND
Burgundy’s Côte-d’Or just north of Dijon is famous for the beauty of its landscapes and of course, for its fine wines. An oenophile’s paradise of bucolic countryside and world class vineyards, wine lovers will want to explore the Route des Grands Crus which spans from Santenay to Dijon and includes the Nuits-Saint-Georges commune and the beautiful walled town of Beaune. Along with the rolling hills and forested countryside, the area is one of the most popular and historically significant regions.
Don’t miss a visit to the 14th century UNESCO designated Abbey at Fontenay, and charming nearby villages such as Flavigny, Montbard’s Ville Fleurie (town in bloom), and the exceedingly picturesque hilltop town of Semur-en-Auxois.
Burgundy’s capital of Dijon is a historic gem with a tightly knit maze of Renaissance, Gothic and even Art Deco architecture, with a pedestrian-friendly center and vibrant street scene. Be sure to visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts, in the vast Palace of the Dukes, which houses an impressive collection of sculptures, paintings and antiquities.
